Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: August 9, 2026

Plain-language summary: Capture is off until you enable it. If enabled, Better Browser History stores its data locally in your browser. We do not operate a data server, sell data, share it, use it for advertising or run third-party analytics.

Scope and single purpose

Better Browser History is a browser extension whose single purpose is to let you privately capture, search, organize and analyze your own browsing history on your device. This policy covers the extension, its public website and support channels.

Consent and controls

On a new installation, history capture is off. Before capture can begin, the extension displays a prominent explanation of the data it handles and asks you to affirmatively enable private history. You may keep capture off, pause it later, exclude hostnames, disable page-content or engagement capture, configure retention, export a backup or clear all stored data from Settings.

Data the extension handles

If you enable capture, the extension may handle these categories to provide its history features:

The extension does not require an account and does not intentionally collect names, email addresses, authentication information, financial or health information, precise location, cookies, form submissions or communications.

How data is used

Handled data is used only to provide and improve the extension's user-facing history search, deduplication, sessions, navigation journeys, annotations, backups, retention controls and aggregate time/visit insights. Data is not used for personalized advertising, creditworthiness, lending, unrelated profiling or any purpose unrelated to Better Browser History's single purpose.

Storage, transmission and sharing

Extension data is stored in the extension's local IndexedDB database inside your browser profile. Better Browser History has no account system, cloud synchronization service, telemetry service or advertising SDK. The extension does not transmit your saved browsing data to the developer or a third party.

We do not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not transfer it to third parties except if required to comply with applicable law, and we do not use or transfer it for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose. We do not allow humans to read user data unless you provide specific data in a support request, we obtain your explicit consent for a specific item, or access is required for security, legal compliance or abuse prevention.

Limited Use disclosure

Better Browser History's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Retention and deletion

By default, captured data remains locally until you delete it. Optional retention settings can prune older records. You can delete all extension data in Settings. Uninstalling the extension causes Chrome to remove its local extension storage under Chrome's platform behavior. Exported JSON backups remain wherever you chose to save them and are under your control.

Security

The production extension contains no remotely hosted executable code. Code is packaged with the extension and data processing occurs locally. No system can guarantee absolute security; keep your browser and operating system current and protect access to your device and browser profile.

Children

The extension is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect children's information through a developer-operated service.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the effective date above will be updated and the new policy will be published at this URL. When required, the extension will request renewed consent before newly disclosed data handling begins.

For privacy questions or deletion help, open an issue in the public support tracker. Do not post private browsing data in a public issue.
